I am committed to key economic opportunities to keep pace with Ogden City's growth. Through engagement and optimization by growing Ogden's commercial tax base, the reduction of tax burden will be taken off the homeowners of Ogden. This shift in funding will be the catalyst to continue to support our parks, historic landmarks, and urban redevelopment areas. Creating a hub for economic innovation while supporting our local business should be the shared long-term economic vision that will benefit all Ogden residents. I will continue to support the economic opportunity efforts using the tools available to cities, to create a tax base that supports our ongoing services. I support the efforts to keep our foot on the throttle to ensure Ogden will succeed as the emerging city it has become.
Good governance is the backbone to being a good steward of the taxpayer’s money. Striving to make Ogden services adaptive and efficient and data more accessible, in turn creates a more open and transparent community. I want to restore public confidence through education and communication. Using the five-year financial modeling tool to help make data-based decisions about Ogden’s finances and the Ogden City strategic plan, will help us shape a stronger city. Short- and long-term planning toward investment in streets, sidewalks and water infrastructure will help maintain our aging infrastructure and prioritize the budget needed for future ongoing maintenance. I have and will be committed to the ongoing support of our first responders and all employees and will support efforts to enhance the quality of life, safety, and security of our community.
I have been driving action to make sure that all Ogden residents have safe and attractive neighborhoods in which to live. I will continue to push policies and ordinances that support improvements in broad housing choices, housing affordability, and accessibility for all who want to live in Ogden. Ogden needs a broad range of housing options that are built with quality in mind. Land use planning is important to making sure that our residents have accessibility to everyday services, that they are in a proximity to transit services and jobs and that we are building appropriate housing structures in the right place.
Creating a "community of belonging" and opportunity is the first step to making Ogden the city of choice for talent attraction and retention. Balancing growth while keeping open space is important and I will proactively work to find the balance. I am supportive of workforce development and retention by attracting and keeping young professionals and other workers in the Ogden area. Working with anchor institutions such as Weber State University and Ogden Weber Tech College, I will continue to create policies that will sustain and attract viable talent. I want to develop a forward-thinking, livable, and healthy community. I want Ogden to become the city of choice.
